Relay Dance Collective is a project-based group. We are performing artists and working women, pursuing other artistic projects as dancers and choreographers. Our intent was not to create an organization, per say We got together because we thought it would be fun to put on a show, and hey, if we could give back to the community in some way, wouldn't that be cool?
The good thing about being involved with other dance groups and performances is that our perspective stays fresh and never gets stale or too narrow.
This week, two RDC-ers are performing with other groups.
RDC founder and our equivalent of resident choreographer, Amanda Oie, is dancing tonight and tomorrow in Version Excursion's Ballo Alla Vita at Velocity Dance Center. Additionally, she's excited to have just started a new administrative position with internationally-renowned experimental dance leader, Maureen Whiting, and will soon be performing in a piece of Whiting's.
This weekend is also a busy one for Gabrielle Nomura, who is appearing as a show girl in Diamonds, the Heavenly Spies' 10-year anniversary gala at The Triple Door. Part-dance, part craft-project (considering all the rhinestones that needed to be hot-glued on to shoes and leotards), she is having a blast performing with lead choreographer/dancer "Agent Rhinestone," two of her college chums from Western Washington University's dance program, and many beautiful, former Seahawks Sea Gals.
